Last season I worked my first city big-air project with Schneestern, the Innsbruck Air & Style event held at the Bergisel ski-jumping stadium above Innsbruck, Austria. Air & Style is one of the most acclaimed snowboarding big air events and the build-up for it was a real eye-opener for me: hundreds of people working 12- or 16-hour days for weeks in advance, all for one evening of snowboarding and music in front of a crowd of thousands. I also got to test the jump on the day before the competition, because the lighting and TV crew needed a guinea pig to dial in their equipment. The 40-degree takeoff and landing had me a little scared up on the drop-in ramp, but after my first hit I was convinced: this jump was MONEYSAUCE! The pros seemed to like it, too - Sage Kotsenburg stomped maybe the first double cork 1440 on a snowboard, and Mark McMorris took the win with a beautiful dub cork 1260 tailgrab. back to homepage
